Ongoing Drop-in Classes

A balanced yoga practice that includes both stretching and strengthening is best. Most students experience the greatest mind-body benefits by incorporating both Restorative Yoga and Flow or Hatha Yoga into their routines. Most regular classes at Whole Yoga are an hour each to allow you to customize your practice within your own schedule.

All-Levels Flow, or Vinyasa
“Vinyasa” is usually translated as “flow,” and the term refers to linking your breath with your movements. Each posture flows into the next in a meditative dance. Increase strength, flexibility, endurance, and—above all—centeredness as you build movements based on sun salutation series. Both modifications and challenges to the poses are offered to make the class appropriate for students of varying levels.

Intermediate Flow
Take your practice to the next level with arm balances, powerful breathwork, and sustained and refined postures. For students who are comfortable with suryanamaskar A and B; not appropriate for beginners or those with serious health concerns.

Hatha Yoga
This is an accessible and eclectic blend of different styles of yoga designed to tone and stretch your entire body, relieve stress, and create a deep experience of well-being. Expect a mix of traditional yoga music and mainstream music, with intelligent sequencing and motivation for an inspiring yoga experience.

Sunrise Flow
Energizing sun salutations begin this all-levels class. (Beginners and advanced yogis alike are welcome!) Increase core awareness and integration while building strength, flexibility, and endurance. Additional side-effects may include improved posture and better concentration! Sunrise Flow is offered as a series (currently March 2-April 6), although drop-ins are welcome, too. (Sign up in advance to get all 6 classes for just $55!)

assisted forearm standRestorative Yoga
Although you’re sure to find this class relaxing, this is not your usual yoga. You’ll ease into each pose and focus particularly on cleansing breathing. We spend most of our time in floor-oriented postures, staying in each one long enough to allow for truly restorative opening. This slow-paced session can be a great introduction to meditation techniques, or offer something new to add to an existing practice. Dressing in light layers is recommended.

Mat Pilates
You will work AND have fun with the classical beginner/intermediate floor series. Our instructors draw on the most respected pilates traditions (Power Pilates, Stott, and more) to continually refine and challenge the body's movement patterns. We sometimes use props, and we always emphasize the incredible core strengthening and grace that make pilates so popular. A wonderful complement to your yoga practice, or a great class on its own. See About Yoga & Pilates for more information.

Pilates-Inspired Core Fusion
This class, although challenging, is appropriate for students of all fitness levels! We focus on core stability and strength, combined with balance, endurance, and flexibility moves. Using traditional and modified Pilates mat work, stability balls, bands, and your own body weight, you'll get an effective full-body workout.

Yoga For Vets
Chris Eder teaches this class to give back to those who have given so much for all of us. Offered the first Sunday of the month at 10:30 am, this practice takes a fluid format depending on students' needs. FREE for all active-duty military and veterans. Provided we have the space, everyone is welcome to attend; the class is donation-based for non-military folks, and all proceeds benefit Semper Fidelis Health and Wellness (so no class cards or passes, please).

Workshops and Special Events

Beginner Yoga Workshops
At least once a month, Laurie Hyland Robertson, RYT, offers a two-hour workshop designed to help students of all types feel more comfortable in yoga asanas (poses). Although nearly all of our classes can be taken by beginners—just let your instructor know you're new to yoga—this workshop is ideal for those who'd like a bit more detail at a slower pace. Class fee is $20, and drop-ins are welcome. Next class: Saturday, Feb 25 (12 noon-2 pm).

Sun Salutation Clinic
Whether it's your first Sun Salute or your 500th, Katharine Mason, RYT, will help you find the ease and power in these classic postures. Saturday, March 3, 1:00-2:30 pm. Click here for more information!

Drop-in Meditation
Kadampa Meditation Center Maryland hosts students from all walks of life, with all levels of experience in meditation—everyone is welcome to attend! Tuesday evenings from 7:30 to 8:30 pm. More details here.
